Who We Are
We are a group of individuals & businesses dedicated to inspiring & enriching the lives of the children of our community through the enhancement of the musical education programs in our schools. We also LOVE the ukulele and are striving to improve local music programs based on a course of study designed around this little instrument.
Our Approach
Why the ukulele? It's not just because we love the instrument. We have witnessed an existing program of study that has years of proven success, complete with a world-class, touring ukulele ensemble. The program is based in Langley, BC. The Langley Ukulele Ensemble is the result of a musical program started in grade 3 based almost exclusively on the ukulele. WE HAD A BLAST!
Our first annual Gorge Ukulele Festival was amazing!
From the proceeds we raised, we have already purchased 50 ukuleles & 75 sets of classroom books for Mid-Valley, Wy'East & Westside Elementary Schools.
The 2009 festival was held 27-28 February. Hightlights include:
Almost 2000 kids saw the Langley Ukulele Ensemble at school assemblies.
250 people came out to see the Langley Ensemble Friday night.
80 campers came out for an all-day ukulele camp on Saturday.
More than 100 people participated in the Instructors Concert & Jam Saturday night at The Pines Tasting Room.
